Morningside High School

The Future Firefighter Program

class2What is the Future Firefighter Program?

It is a program designed for high school students to prepare them for a career in the fire service and other professions where discipline and a good attitude are required. There are currently over 20 students involved in the program that is sponsored by the African American Firefighters Museum. This is open to all high school students in the great Inglewood Community that are in pursuit of a career in the public safety field. Captain Brent Burton and his F.I.R.E team (Firefighters Instilling Responsibility through Education) of the Los Angeles County Fire Department Recruitment Unit conduct weekly 60-90 minute training sessions after school, on the campus of Morningside High School for all students interested in grades 9-12.

What is the purpose of the program?

The purpose is to stimulate and motivate our Morningside High School students into realizing that they are very valuable to the future of our community. Students that are interested in a career in the “Fire Service”, which includes the Paramedic and EMT field (Emergency Medical Technician), are invited to participate. Today’s students are tomorrow’s professionals, business and community leaders!
